Welcome to the China Global Development Knowledge Network

China is now a major actor in global development. Increasing Chinese participation in global governance institutions and strategic interventions such as the Belt and Road initiative indicate that  China’s role as a key development player is growing rapidly. This is especially true within the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in relation to the UN Strategic Development Goals, where cooperation between China and other major development actors, including the UK, is crucial. Rigorous evidence based research is required to ensure that China’s global development aspirations are aligned with the UN Goals.

The China Global Development Knowledge Network (CGDKN) fosters UK-Chinese collaboration by providing a platform for Chinese and British researchers to share their work. Supported by the UK Department for International Development, CGDKN is designed for researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, students, the media and anyone interested in Chinese-UK cooperation on global development. Evidence-based research is central to development and the CGDKN platform provides opportunities for researchers from both nations to promote their work and to engage with others who have a professional interest in the role of China in development.

The CGDKN platform showcases the latest research from the membership, alongside a directory of research programmes, institutions and funding opportunities. The Network also hosts seminars and workshops, details of which are shared on the platform. We also feature news, blogs and details of forthcoming events, and we encourage British and Chinese researchers to tell us about their work and share their publications with us.
